Best Places to Photograph the Eiffel Tower in Paris

Q. Quels sont les meilleurs endroits pour photographier la tour Eiffel à Paris ?

A. If you’re searching for the best places to photograph the Eiffel Tower in Paris, I’m going to share with you some great photography spots. If you already follow me on Instagram, you likely know that Paris is my photography playground–and the city is hardcoded in my DNA.

These are locations that can help you capture iconic and authentic Eiffel Tower views.

1. Trocadéro Gardens — The Iconic Eiffel Tower Photo Spot

Trocadéro (Place du Trocadéro) is the most photographed viewpoint of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and for good reason. From the terrace of the Palais de Chaillot, you get a full, symmetrical view of the tower with the Seine and the gardens in the foreground.

Timing is key when visiting this spot. If you go when it’s crowded, you might not believe that this place sometimes becomes empty. But it does.

  • Best time to shoot: Sunrise. By 8 a.m. the terrace fills with tour groups and street vendors and hawkers selling Eiffel Tower souvenirs and emergency cell phone power banks.
  • Best for: Wide establishing shots, golden hour photography, postcard-style composition.
  • Photography tip: Shoot from the lower steps of the garden rather than the main terrace for a cleaner foreground and fewer people in frame.
  • Metro stop: Trocadéro (Line 6, 9)

2. Rooftop Terrace – Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann  (La Terrasse)

Get a totally free view of the Eiffel Tower and a fantastics city view from this must-visit rooftop terrace in Paris. Located at 40 Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement.

  • Best time to shoot: Early before the crowds. Lundi – samedi the terrace opens at 10:00am and on dimanche at 11:00am.
  • Best for: Wide establishing shots, iconic city view with the Eiffel Tower looming in the background.
  • Photography tip: Beat the crowds. Be prepared to wait for a clean shot.
  • Metro stop: Chaussee d’Antin – Law Fayette (Lines 7, 9 ) or Opera (Lines 3,7, 8 ) or Havre-Caumartin (Lines 3, 9).

3. Champ de Mars — Most Romantic Eiffel Tower Photo Location

The Champ de Mars is the pretty long stretch of park directly beneath the tower. It’s a popular spot for couples and engagement photo sessions. It offers an up-close Eiffel Tower vibe.

  • Best time to shoot: Blue hour (shortly 20–30 minutes after sunset), when the tower’s lights turn on and the sky still holds color.
  • Best for: Portraits, couples and engagement photography, low-angle shots that give the Eiffel Tower a larger than life feel.
  • Photography tip: Lie down or shoot from a low angle looking up through the grass — this is the composition that consistently outperforms standing shots for engagement.
  • Metro stop: École Militaire (Line 8) or Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel (RER C)

4. Rue de l’Université — Best Spontaneous and Candid Off-the-Beaten-Path Eiffel Tower Captures

For more subtle, yet still impressive Eiffel Tower shots, head to rue de l’universite in the 7th arrondissement to catch a view of the Iron Lady framed between Paris apartment rooftops.

  • Best time to shoot: Late afternoon, when the light is absolutely lovely against the building façades.
  • Best for: Editorial-style shots, street photography, personal branding shoots, minimalist compositions, and chic yet chill photography Paris keepsakes.
  • Photography tip: Narrow framing looks cool – don’t feel obligated to center the Eiffel Tower in the frame.
  • Metro stop: Invalides (Line 8, 13) or Solférino
